VITTA – ICT Achievers

During 2012, I have been selected to take part in the VITTA (Victorian Information Technology Teachers Association) ICT Achievers program for high achieving year 11 students. The program entails 15 days industry based work experience with a leading ICT organisation. Because I have a strong interest in Music, I was placed with Arts Centre Melbourne, Digital Learning Hub. DLH is primarily an educational provider for school aged children (both Primary and Secondary) to experience more in Music, Video and Multimedia editing, recording and production software. I am required to write a daily blog about my activities during this program. You can find my blog posts here.

Career / Uni Ambitions

My ambition post school is to study the Bachelor of Information Technology (Industry Scholarship Program) at Swinburne University of Technology. This course is a specialised I.T. course where students get to partake in two 20 week Industry Based Learning Placements with leading ICT organisations around Melbourne. I would really like to be selected for this course as 99% of the time, students are head-hunted by organisations and companies for jobs (unlike many other straight-out-of-uni students). The salary of these jobs is often remarkably high for a first full time position and students are often promoted extremely quickly into management positions. The almost guaranteed job security and tuition fee scholarship make this course so appealing to me.

I also plan to open my own Website Development Business as a sole proprietor. This will form my second, part time job. My goal is to create this business whilst I am studying at uni. I find that having a flexible part time job can be very beneficial at university as you won’t be pressured to work when you have an important assessment or exam coming up.
